But here's the catch: you can only build a home for the peep using blocks, straws, legos, toothpicks, and playdoh! Equal (Playdoh) PartsThis week, we began learning about fractions. What better way to divide shapes into equal parts then by doing it with playdoh?! The kids loved being hands on and creative in this small group activity. Having an A"maze"ing TimeWe also spent a majority of this week learning about wind. The students worked together in groups to design a maze and use wind (their breath through a straw) to push a marble through their creation. I loved watching them problem solve together! This week, we began a new unit in math and it is all about shapes! The class has been loving using the shape blocks to describe different properties, sort them by similarities, and even create their own pictures-- how fun! Our Valentine's Day party was a blast! From cookie decorating to pinning the heart on the fox, we loved every second of it. Here are some photos from the special day. As Open House approaches, we have been working SO hard on our projects that we will be sharing with you! Here is a little sneak peak of our "firsties" hard at work. After so much time off, the students were ecstatic to see one another! We spent the morning sharing stories with each other and just catching up. In the afternoon, we played "Find A Friend," which gave the class another opportunity to talk about their doings over the winter break. They had a blast and even learned a thing or two about each other! Amid all the holiday fun outside of school, we decided to bring some into the class, as well! Last week during our science block, the children were able to use every day items to create extraordinary things such as bridges, wrapping paper, and trees. They were even able to compete to see who could completely remove the stripes from a candy cane (without eating it, of course). We had a blast!! Building Marshmallow BridgesDesigning Wrapping PaperMaking Trees out of CupsRemoving Candy Cane StripesThis week in science, we explored with different objects and put them into motion ourselves. From spinning tops, bouncy balls, and pinwheels, to race cars, bubbles, and marbles, we had a blast! We even practiced recording our findings from each experiment-- we are pretty official!
